The New Jersey Forest Fire Service said the multi-acre blaze is located near Bancroft Lane and Cove Court. Crews have deployed fire engines and ground teams to control the fire. While evacuations have been ordered and no structures have been damaged, 20 structures are threatened.
Earlier in the day, firefighters worked to contain the Country Club Wildfire in Lakewood, Ocean County. That blaze, burning near Pine Park and the Lakewood Country Club, has consumed 30 acres.
Elevated Fire Risk Statewide
The fires come as the U.S. National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement warning of an elevated wildfire risk across parts of New Jersey.
"Northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 to 30 mph this afternoon, and minimum relative humidity values of 35 to 40 percent, are creating conditions conducive to wildfire spread," the statement reads.
In response, Stage 3 Fire Restrictions are in effect statewide:
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service has classified the current fire danger level as elevated, and residents are urged to exercise extreme caution to prevent additional wildfires.
Both the Hainesport and Lakewood fires remain under investigation, with no causes yet determined.
